Republic Day is one festive occasion I look forward to most eagerly every year, especially the military parade. This year’s parade was exceptional. Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t as good as we would have wished it to be. There was a slight drizzle when the ceremonies started but the weather improved as the parade commenced. President Obama was the Chief Guest at the Republic Day celebrations this year, the first time a President of the United States had accepted this honour. Continue reading →

The moment you speak of psychology, in which subject, by the way, I have a deep interest, people will say, “Yeah, we know, the glass half full or half empty stuff!” We often speak of friends and relatives being either optimists or pessimists. Over time optimists have been described as being people who see the positive side of things, people and situations. They are the ones likely to see the glass being half full.

I had no idea who Sunanda Pushkar was till a controversy broke out involving the Kochi franchise in the Indian Premier League (IPL). It was known that she was married to Shashi Tharoor, then a Minister in the Union cabinet in the UPA government. The controversy ended with the team being turfed out of the IPL and one didn’t hear much about Ms. Pushkar until in Jan 2014 when one fine day she was found dead in the luxurious Leela Hotel in New Delhi.  Continue reading →
