Diwali is a huge festival in India and traditionally employers used to gift their employees with cash bonuses or gifts in kind closer to the festive season. Boxes of sweets, mementos and artifacts of different types and gift certificates for the employee to choose whatever she wanted was the order of the day. Now comes news that The Hari Krishna Exports Private Limited in Surat, Gujarat gave the most amazing gifts to their employees for this year’s Diwali.
Incredible as it might sound, the diamond manufacturer and exporter showered gifts such as 491 Fiat Punto cars, 200 two-bedroom houses and of course jewellery to 1200 of their 6000 employees. Truly a Diwali bonanza for the select employees, this being a form of recognition of their contributions to the firm in the course of the year.
By this gesture, Savjibhai Dholakia, the Chairman of the Company has raised the bar as far as corporates gifting to their employees is concerned. It should be noted that this “loyalty” program is not for all employees but for those who met their targets and performed well and not merely stayed on in the company.
Mr. Dholakia is an example of India’s entrepreneurial spirit as he started as a diamond worker himself and today heads a company which exports diamonds to 50 countries and had impressive profits of $9.8 billion or INR 600 billion this year.
