I had posted earlier about the ongoing Blogging A to Z Challenge. When I got to the letter “P” it was without any hesitation that I said, P for me is for “People at Work & Play” this very blog which has given me a lot of pleasure over time. I am happy to see that even if my posts have become rather infrequent, people still check out the old posts that caught their fancy. It gives me a lot of satisfaction to know that the material here is of some use, especially to young professionals starting out in their careers as many posts have information which can help them succeed at work.

I am no longer professionally active in the Human Resources Management space having taken a conscious decision to retire in 2010, yet I keep in touch with a few blogs that I find interesting. I also read articles that catch my attention about issues related to a profession I served for more than 35 years.

My take is that we do need a HR Department, call it by any name, but it must certainly be one which is responsive proactively to the needs of its customers, who paradoxically are both the top management of the company as also its employees.
