Most of us spend long periods of time looking at computer screens or at the many gadgets that have become an integral part of our lives, like the indispensable all-purpose cell phone. Doctors report that increasingly people are being afflicted with computer vision syndrome and other such issues with our eyes. The computer vision syndrome is a condition which comes out of focusing our eyes on a computer display for long periods of time.
Some of the more common symptoms are eye strain and redness of the eyes. A recent article in the DNA newspaper says in Bangalore where I live, the most number of patients are techies in the age group of 25-35. It appears the numbers so afflicted have doubled in the past five years.
The article goes on to report that some have found driving more difficult and have had near fatal accidents. Now that’s a worrying thing for me. It is common for people at work to spend most of the day on the computer and it doesn’t surprise me one bit that many need to get their vision checked. When was the last time you had your vision checked?
- Blinking your eyes as often as possible to reduce the strain
- Taking a 20 second break every 20 minutes
