My alma mater, good old XLRI at Jamshedpur celebrates its 54th Annual Convocation on March 27, 2010. They seem to be in for an interesting day. The Chief Guest will be Mr. Kumar Mangalam Birla, Chairman of the Aditya Birla Group, one of India’s finest corporate houses. The Convocation is also the occasion when XLRI’s prestigious Sir Jahangir Ghandy Medal for Industrial & Social Justice is announced. This year it goes to Dr. E. Sreedharan, famous all over India as the Man behind the Metro.
Professor Madhukar Shukla, and there are very few as committed as him to the cause of the Institute and its alumni, says the Convocation will be webcasted live- for the benefit of viewers who could not make it in person.
Broadcasting the Convocation live would have very far away from the mind of Fr. Enright when he started XLRI way back in 1949. The recent news of yet another successful placement season which saw an average domestic package of Rs. 14 lakhs shows that the institution he founded has grown from strength to strength. May it continue to prosper in the years to come.
