As most readers especially in cricket crazy India would know, the IPL (Indian Premier League) finals was an exciting affair. Hyderabad’s Deccan Chargers beat Bangalore’s Royal Challengers by a mere 6 runs in a match which could have easily be won by either side.
In my opinion the following made the difference:
* The catch that the veteran Rahul Dravid dropped when Symonds was just 5 and the score was 23 for 2.
*The usual Aussie aggro from Symonds who baited young Manish Pandey even before he had faced a single ball.
* The collective failure of the RCB batsmen to make a mark in such a crucial match.
* Robin Uthappa holding off the final assault until it was too late.
Full marks to Anil Kumble who was the perfect leader who led from the front. His batsmen let him down after the bowlers did very well to keep DC down to a gettable 143.
All in all a very exciting tournament has come to an end. Full marks to Adam Gilchrist for showing exemplary leadership to take the Deccan Chargers who came in last in the previous year to the top spot this year. His captaincy once again demonstrates what motivation and team spirit can do to lift the performance of teams.
