I use this blog as a medium to salute achievement in any field. A R Rahman has made India proud by winning 2 Oscars at the 81 st Academy Awards today. The movie for which he scored the music ” Slumdog Millionaire” went on to win 8 Oscars. Rahman himself won 2- for the Best Original Score and the Best Original Song-an amazing feat.

People who have known Rahman over the years say that he continues to be unassuming and simple in his ways. His talent is abundant and this is the first big recognition in  the world’s most coveted awards ceremony.

His first big break came when the noted Tamil director, Mani Ratnam asked the young man ( he was about 25 then) to compose the music for “Roja”. This was a super hit and brought a lot of public acclaim for the talented music director.

For the last 17 years, Rahman has been showing the magic in his music to audiences all over the world. We hope this honour will spur him on to even greater heights.

All I can say in salute- is to echo his title winning song ” Jai Ho” (loosely translated to  “Victory To You”) .
