Two enterprising ladies in their 70s are doing something very worthwhile most admirably. Padma Srinivasan, aged 73 and her friend and business partner, Jayalakshmi Sreenivasan, aged 75 run a pizza parlour called Pizza Haven. Their vegetarian pizzas are in demand in many of  Bangalore’s IT companies. They zoned in on this segment as the young employees there have a hunger for pizzas and the money to spend.

What makes their project even more laudable is the goal they have set for themselves. Seeing the sad case of elders being destitute when cast away by their families, these ladies are working towards building a retirement home for the elderly they have established on the outskirts of Banaglore. The home -appropriately named Vishranti ( rest) already has 10 residents.

India is home to over 76 million people over the age of 60. Bangalore has over 565,000 elders in a 2007 population of 5.28 million. The effort of the Pizza Grannies is heart warming. May their business flourish so as to enable them to reach their goal. Womens Festure Service has a nice article about these grannies.

Their outlet seems to be on Richmond Road. It would be useful to have their contact number or email id.  I am sure many of us would like to help their worthy cause.
