I liked this post by Kevin Eikenberry called “Getting Past Maintenance” . He describes how we get routine work done and get into a maintenance mode which keeps things going- without any great deal of enthusiasm or energy. Be revisiting your goals, writes Ken, you get past maintenance and on to achieving greater and more exciting goals.
Not too many of us take goal setting seriously. If done with some thought and a sense of purpose, the very act of setting challenging goals can in itself be high motivating. You do get a sense of satisfaction on achieving your goal- particularly if it has been adequately challenging.
Looking for intellectual stimulation and innovative ways of doing things ? Exercise the brain and set for yourself demanding goals that can bring out the best on you.
As Kevin says : get past maintenance.
