In our family we refer to it as “Irrelevant Talk”. We recognize that some people are expert in it. In fact, in our family this phenomenon is named after a relative who is simply superb at it.
What is this phenomenon you might wonder? It simply means:
- Never answering to the point
- Never committing one way or the other
- Speaking in generalities
- Speaking of irrelevant things
Let me give you a recent example to illustrate this. We were to host a dinner for half a dozen friends. We were naturally busy with the preparations as we wanted the dinner to be a success. I met one of the guests who had not confirmed his joining us.
