For many a bright professional, the world over, a dream is to be admitted to the Harvard Business School. The venerable school celebrates 100 years in 2008. It’s mission: “We educate leaders who make a difference in the world”.
Guess which country sends most candidates (after the US of A of course) for the Harvard regular MBA program? That honour goes to India which sent as many as 38 students for the batch of 2009 made up of 900 students. HBS assistant director in MBA career services, Kurt Piemonte said, “Increasingly, we find Indian students want to head back to the country to pursue their careers. There is a real interest in India and the trend of returning to India to work is catching up. The number of students who have not been in the US before and want to return to India to work is rising.”
India already has a strong presence in the teaching side with 15 % of the HBS Faculty being Indians or of Indian origin.
Also, as part of its plan to globalise its curriculum, in 2005, HBS opened the India Research Center (IRC) in Mumbai, one of the six research units across the world. The research centre will help build HBS’s knowledge about the Indian economy and the corporate sector through case studies and original research work.
These are clearly positive by-products of the greater interest evinced in the Indian economy by almost everyone-including the Harvard Business School.
sir,
That was a very inspiring article on HBS and Indian Students…But what are the specific steps one has to take to make it to HBS?
What are the qualifications needed to take admission in a MBA COURSE in HARWARD
To begin with, you must spell Harvard right.
ass, the least you could do is to spell it right, go back to gutter.
I HAVE COMPLETED BACHOLORS DEGREE IN COMMERCE FROM PUNE UNIVERCITY. I WANT TO DO MBA FROM HARVARD B SCHOOL. WHAT IS THE QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED? N DETAIL PROCEDURE FOR IT?
forget it
lol… great answer anurag …. hahahah … very inspired !
Hey listen up dude, i appreciate your eagerness for HBS. really i appreciate it. But dude, its not a ‘gajar ka halwa’ that you can cook just out of college. Believe me, i myself m a IIMA post graduate. Harvard requires you to have a minimum of 5 years of post-graduate work experience, a GMAT score of minimum 730 out of 800 to even get considered. Moreover the most bloody important thing is “4 YEAR DEGREE COURSE”. And you my friend have a pathetic Indian 3 year degree which adds no value in international market. Take my advice, prepare for CAT, get a good percentile and go for a PGDM from some good institute like S.P. Jain or something like that. then work as a manager in some company (from your placement) for another 4 years. then give your GMAT, bring a good score and apply to HBS. And yeah, one more ass blowing thing, keep atleast 50 Lakhs ready, HARVARD is not cheap! The amount is quoted is your minimum expense to go to HARVARD. so be ready for it along with other fucked up requirements. I ain’t demoralizing you buddy, i just gave you the most valuable advice of your life. so while, you are reading this, just think of a guy who has wasted a whole beer can, 20 minutes for you and still doesnt know you, m talking about MYSELF you havent got the light yet. As for myself, My name is Samip, IIM-A class of 2004, CFO at VeriSign, Phd in Management from HARVARD UNIVERSITY. Have fun bugger. Never miss 3 things in life, A good woman, A free Beer and A Diwali Bonus! take care….
———— take care brother and kisses to your sister! hahaha . Cya.
I wouldn’t have commented if it wasnt for this statement of yours …”i myself m a IIMA post graduate” – of all the people I’ve met here at Harvard, very few – my dear friend – are from any of the IIMs 🙂
First learn to spell then come to Harvard 🙂

If infact you are ‘an’ IIMA graduate … least u could do is know when and where to use “a” and “an”……… Its not ‘a IIMA..”…. its “an IIMA..”
So instead of spreading your half cooked wisdom here on a blog, how about you focus on your “woman, beer and bonus” 🙂 … Just a suggestion 🙂

hey samip thanku for ur advice can u tell me how you prepared for cat exam,
Hey Samip,
I have a BTech + MTech Degree in Aerospace Engineering (IIT Madras) and I am currently working as Demand Analyst for Etihad Airways (Abu Dhabi). My profile is basically to build strategies for revenue maximization and implement the same by coordinating between Sales, Pricing and Inventory team of Etihad.
I am very keen on pursuing MBA at HBS.
I totally appreciate the work experience requirement of HBS. Can you please guide me what kind of work experience should I be focusing on.
I got a percentile of 99.89 in CAT 2011 and got calls from IIMA and IIMC.
I have secured 7.5/10 CGPA in my engineering which is an average score.
Do you personally think with my profile I can get into HBS?
Really appreciate your reply.
Thanks and Regards
Sharath Giri
Hi Folks,
I am into IT and have 4.5 yrs of exp(8 months onsite). My GMAT score is 760(M 51,V 42) and I have decent undergraduate scores(~85% in 10/12 and 8.03/10 in graduation). What are my chances of getting into a top 10 b school with this type of profile? I am not looking for the likes of whartton/harvard, but at other schools like Chicago GSB,Dartmouth, etc.
The samip guy sounds like a mannerless jerk. I don’t think he’s even heard of Harvard.
Agreed!
Hey Samip,
This Jay Madhani and i m currently pursuing B.Tech at NIRMA UNIVERSITY,Ahemdabad Gujarat. My current future plan is to get into an top Indain University for MBA through CAT.I am mainly targetting IIMs.But after that how can i get into HARVARD to do MBA??

hey ,
who ever is seeing this post let me know a few questions answered, it will be of great help.
i am an Indian citizen,
i have an 4 year undergraduate engineering degree in information technology ,
am having 2.5 years of work experience in a US based company.
my profile is as follows:
10th (CBSE) -77%
12th (CBSE)- 63% (i seriously got out of track here )
B.E (VTU) -68% (VTU is a pretty good university, that is what i think of, at the least 🙂 )
have been provided 3 hikes in my profile at work based on my performance, with a promotion.
i am preparing for CAT and XAT,
this year 2013 was really bad for cat, because of some pro-metric errors, i scored a very low 39 percentile due to some normalization issues.
whereas in XAT i scored 90 percentile, still not a good score, i will be preparing again for the exams,
but in recent times i have taken interest in MBA in harward, at start was taken aback by the huge tutuion fee, but of course the ROI is also pretty good, so any information will be absolutely helpful,
thank you well in advance for your reply.
regards,
mohan
