Teaching Innovation at GE

Prof. Vijay Govindarajan, Professor of International Business at Dartmouth College’s Tuck School of Business is to take up a new role. For a year till he returns to Tuck in 2009, Prof. Govindarajan, known popularly as VG, will advise GE on innovation as the Chief Innovation Consultant.

Prof. Govindarajan has co-authored with Chris Trimble a best selling book on innovation called “10 Rules for Strategic Innovators”.

This move comes based on the importance being placed on innovation by GE’s CEO Jeff Immelt. GE has identified six areas to innovate in: environment, infrastructure, demographics, emerging markets, digital technologies and financial liquidity.

Interesting to know that the Amul girl has recently completed 40 years! The Amul girl ads. have always been topical, full of humour and creative. A great part of the credit should go to DaCunha Communications -creators of the Amul girl way back in 1967.

Amul has become a household name in India and one of the reasons for its popularity over the years has been its brilliant advertising.

Amul incidentally is the brand name for the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd (GCMMF) that sells dairy products. It is possibly the best example of co-operative business. It has 2.6 million producer members who handle 10.16 million litres of milk per day.

GCMMF became a billion-dollar entity in March 2007.
