This is an interesting, although old ( pardon the pun) one.

You Are Old When….

Enjoyed the long and growing list at Guy Kawasaki’s blog.

At the end of the day, You Are Old When You Feel Old !!

A Recipe for Productivity

Paige Arnof–Fenn is the Founder and CEO of Mavens & Moghuls . She writes about the value of a retreat to boost productivity in Entrepreneur.com.

Her tips to ensure your retreat is a success:- ( I quote)

  • Plan the date well in advance. Be aware of religious holidays or events that might conflict with others’ personal lives and schedules.
  • Send out background materials early so everyone can arrive prepared. Give people specific questions to think about in advance so they arrive with their wheels already turning.
  • Pick an inspiring venue with a first class staff.
  • Build fun activities into the agenda so there’s a balance between work and play. Everyone has different skill levels and interests so it’s important to offer a variety of extracurricular activities.
  • Turn off cell phones and all electronic devices. Even if your venue is wired and has coverage, ask people to leave their BlackBerrys in the room to minimize distractions.

I would like to add the following, from my experience:

  • Give people an idea of the activities planned. Mention recommended outfits to be worn so that they come prepared.
  • Do a dry run before the actual retreat so that you have all points covered. There are no surprises.
  • Give people time for personal reflection- very often events are so packed that this important aspect of ” invigoration” gets lost.

Some one called it a gold mine. Priscilla Palmer has put together an impressive list of people interested in/blogs on different aspects of Personal Development.

Personal development is a large topic that includes but is not limited to law of attraction, goals, time management, physical fitness, education, motivation, inspiration, and social skills.

Visited some of these sites. Very informative.

Recommended for those who wish to get maximum value from surfing time !

Value of Money

As the years go by, one sees a drop in the perceived value of currency. The success of the economy makes, admittedly in urban circles only, smaller denominations of currency almost irrelevant.

More than 30 years ago when I started my career, a “four figure” salary was considered hot. Today, maid servants and drivers get that much. A thousand has become like a hundred if not a tenner!

Many young kids fresh into their first job get a compensation more than their father and grandfather put together ( not cumulatively, of course).

This phenomenon is not restricted to India. If $ 300 million got you into Forbes list of Richest Americans last year, you need to have minimum net worth of $ 1.3 billion this year to earn a spot on Forbes magazine’s list of the 400 richest Americans. The new threshold meant 82 of America’s billionaires didn’t make the cut.
