inAs the years go by, one sees a drop in the perceived value of currency. The success of the economy makes, admittedly in urban circles only, smaller denominations of currency almost irrelevant.
More than 30 years ago when I started my career, a “four figure” salary was considered hot. Today, maid servants and drivers get that much. A thousand has become like a hundred if not a tenner!
Many young kids fresh into their first job get a compensation more than their father and grandfather put together ( not cumulatively, of course).
This phenomenon is not restricted to India. If $ 300 million got you into Forbes list of Richest Americans last year, you need to have minimum net worth of $ 1.3 billion this year to earn a spot on Forbes magazine’s list of the 400 richest Americans. The new threshold meant 82 of America’s billionaires didn’t make the cut.
