As expected, records continue to crash in the ongoing World Championship of Twenty20 cricket.

The tournament got off to a rousing start with Chris Gayle’s 117 in the very first match.
Here are a few more records created in the last couple of days.

  • Best Bowling Figures: Mark Gillespie (New Zealand) – 4-7 vs Kenya (12th September 2007)
  • Highest Individual Score: Chris Gayle (West Indies) – 117 vs South Africa (11 September 2007)
  • Highest Partnership: Chris Gayle & Devon Smith (1st Wicket, West Indies) – 145 vs South Africa (11 September 2007)
  • Highest Number of Sixes from an individual: Chris Gayle (West Indies) – 10 sixes vs South Africa (11 September 2007)
  • Lowest amount of runs scored off an over: New Zealand vs Kenya C S Martin 1 Wicket maiden. (12 September 2007)

Undoubtedly, more records will be created as the tournament goes along.

Azim Premji

I happened to work for 12 years in the organisation now made famous by Azim Premji. I can vouch for the highest standards of integrity that he himself followed and ensured that others in his organisation did too.

“AHP” as we all called him was an excellent example of a role model. One of the lessons he taught us by personal example was to lead from the front. We were taught never to expect our subordinates to do something we could not do ourselves.

A recent article in the Wall Street Journal calls him the world’s richest Muslim entrepreneur.
While the article speaks of his being a Muslim, it goes on to explain his strong sense of secularism.

“In an interview at Wipro’s sleek Bangalore campus, which had just been visited by a group of Israeli businessmen, Mr. Premji scoffed at the idea he should display his Muslim identity or champion the cause of Muslim advancement in India. “We’ve always seen ourselves as Indian. We’ve never seen ourselves as Hindus, or Muslims, or Christians or Buddhists,” he said.
