Forwards, I don’t mean the ones in football, but the ones in email, are of 3 types. Most are of the type you have already seen/read etc. Some are not worth reading and get deleted immediately. The third type are those which are worth savouring and indeed – forwarding to others.

Here is one which I saw a few days ago. It is a speech given by my old friend, Subroto Bagchi at the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore some years ago.

Very poignant and well written. Recommended reading.

Don’t Get Addicted

Researchers at the University of Massachusetts have found that a young smoker can begin to feel the powerful desires for nicotine within 2 days of first inhaling. About half the children who become addicted report symptoms of dependence by the time they are smoking only 7 cigarettes a month.

This contradicts earlier thinking that people had to smoke at least 5 cigarettes per day over a long period of time to risk becoming addicted to nicotine.

I smoked for many years and have experienced the resultant strong addiction. As one who finally quit smoking, I am proud that I have stayed quit since July 4, 2003. I once again acknowledge the help I received from Quit Net in staying quit. A recent visit to the site reminds me that I have stayed quit for “1488 days, 19 hours, 18 minutes and 39 seconds”!!

My advice for what it is worth: It is very easy to get addicted but damn tough to kick it. So don’t get addicted in the first place.
